How many of your clients are struggling with boundaries? How is does that impact your work? Many mental health and physical health problems are linked to poor boundaries. This is relevant for everyone but especially impacts those of us working in helping professionals. Our work is based on intense connection with others, who are usually struggling with a range of mental and physical problems in which boundaries play a large role. It is not surprising then that there may be parrellel processes which impact us the helping professsional. We will explore:
1. How do we recognize boundaries, ours and our clients?
2. How can we explore and discuss boundaries with our clients?
Ideally, the dynamic and flexible nature of healthy boundaries allow us to be connected to ourselves as well as to others. However, many of us lose touch with this due to intense life expereinces or the intense and busy nature of our lives. Slowing down and rebuilding awareness of our personal space helps us to set healthy boundaries to protect ourselves when in connection.
As a trained Integrated Body Psychotherapist working for years with trauma – the importance of experiential awareness of both the connection and protection elements of boundaries forms an integral part of my work. I look forward to sharing it with others.
In the workshop, we will use experiential exercises to build awareness of personal space and negotiating the protective and connective functions of boundaries. These exercises can be used with clients, as well as benefit ourselves as helping professionals. We will explore:
– What elements are important for personal space? How does one experience it?
– What impacts connection with self? or with others?
– How can protection occur when in connection?
– What is the default? Is the focus more on protection or the priority on connection?
These exercises can provide a creative and active way to bring boundaries alive in a more tangible and understandable way for you and for your clients.
If you are curious and willing to be active in exploring your boundaries, vulnerabilities and strengths – this is a workshop for you!
